Do You Get What You Pay For?

How much are you willing to spend on your computer?

Computers can cost a fortune, and then be out of date within six months. While it is possible to buy a computer today cheaper than ever, the cost doesn't finish with the computer itself. You need software too.

The cumulative cost of all of the virus and security programs, games, office applications, and photo and graphics software you purchase can add up to more than the computer itself. But without the software, the computer is powerless, and unable to do what you want it to achieve.

So you shell out the cash. Or credit.

You may have heard that you can download software for free from the internet. And you might be suspicious. Very suspicious. You are wise.

Because much of the software you can download for free from the internet is very suspicious.
  • Some is illegal. They are copies of programs that you would normally pay for in a shop.
  • Some is dangerous. Software from the internet and other people's computers can contain viruses and spyware.
  • Some is frustrating. You have been given the free version as a cheap advertisement for the real deal, and you are nagged about that fact very regularly. And the free version doesn't do everything that the real version does, and also may suddenly stop working until you pay up.
You would be wise to be very careful in what you download from the internet.

But, there is also a wealth of excellent, valid, legal software that is genuinely free, and good enough to replace the software you spend hundreds of dollars on.

But you need to know how to tell the difference between the safe and the unsafe, the excellent and the mediocre. And that is the point of this website.
